Fortunately, everything you need to know is available on the internet. There are some wonderful resources available online to help you get through the initial learning curve of this powerful system.

And, I've put several of my favorites and most recommended tutorial sources below. Some of these sites are free. Others have a very reasonable charge.

 There are a lot of very good Joomla tutorials available on Joomla Tutorials. This site by Brad Baker, one of the Joomla Core Team and a principal of Rochen, a premiere Joomla hosting service.

 Compass Designs has an excellent collection of tutorial articles. They are well organized, and well written.

 MyJoomlaCast.com has a very good collection of Joomla tutorials on video, including voice. The videos are large and the quality is quite good. The site is free, but requires registration. Follow this link to the site at www.myjoomlacast.com.

Joomla for Beginners is a great site with a lot of Joomla video tutorials. You can even download them to your computer so you can watch them offline. Recommended. 
Well known template provider RocketTheme also has a a good selection of Joomla tutorials on their site. Some are specific to their template, but many are good overviews of Joomla in general.
Siteground is a Joomla friendly web hosting service that offers a number of very helpful Joomla resources. These step by step articles are quite helpful.
