Getting Started with Joomla

Joomla has a lot of power built into the "core." But a lot of the power comes from the "extensions." Finding the right extension for your Joomla site is one of the main keys to building a really great site.

Here are some tips for finding just the right extension for your site. 

• First of all, the official Joomla Extensions Directory (JED) can be found here:  http://extensions.joomla.org.  This is the official source of extensions, and it has a nicely categorized listing of extensions, user reviews and recommendations, demos, and links to download extensions. 
   
  It can get a bit difficult to navigate, however, as there are so many extensions, and some of the categories are just too large to get a handle on.  But, you will spend a lot of time there looking for just the right tool. 

• Next, here's an excellent article on the Joomla forum that has a listing of some of the author's favorite Joomla extensions. This one is worth bookmarking.  The list is a bit outdated now, but it is still worth the time to read. http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,25317.0.html
