I want to add a new user

PDF | Print | E-mail
I want to add a new user to our Joomla website and give that person permission to edit and update articles.   How do I do that?

The process of adding new users with article editing and managing priviledges is a snap in Joomla!

However, this must be done from the administrative back end of Jooma.  Log in to the administrator part of the website.

{mosimage} On the main "Control Panel" that appears, you will see an icon for the "User Manager."  If you are not at the control panel, you can also get to the User Manager from the pull down menus at /Site /User Manager.

{mosimage} Once there, click on the "Add" icon to add a new user.  You will need to add the following items:

Name:   this is the full name of the person, eg:  John Smith

Username:  this is the person's login, eg: jsmith

E-Mail address:  put the person's email address here.  The login information that you create will be emailed to them at this address, and if they forget their password, their password will be emailed to this address on request.

Password:   Their preferred password.  You can create a temporary password for them, and then they can change that to what they want once they log in themelves.

Repeat password:  to make sure that you have entered it correctly, Joomla asks you to type it in again.

Group:  Here you select the "group" that the person will be placed in.  This determines their priviledges on the website and controls what they can or cannot do.

Block user:  you can use this to temporarily prevent the person from logging in to the site, but without removing their user information record.
